I dont get it. I wanted to practice with old kanjis so I don't forget them but it kept throwing me new kanjis!! The settings, level 1, and level 2 is white highlighted- I do not know what that means but they kept showing me brand new kanjis -___-;;
SoraKaraNoAme
SoraKaraNoAme September 6, 2012, 11:00 pm

the highlighted blue options are currently in circulation, meaning those are the only levels they will show in practice. So if you want level 1 and 2 kanji to appear only, set those to blue and the rest of the levels to white. Hope this helps!

OHH thank you, thank you. I mean, it's hard to know what blue and white meant.

shairn September 2, 2012, 5:12 am

I was looking at saving up for a trip in two years...
Maybe I'll move when I'm done with university, but I still have 6-7 years to think about that.
Taexzy
Taexzy September 2, 2012, 5:24 am

or you can go to University in Japan ;) that's what I'm doing
shairn
shairn September 2, 2012, 5:40 am

I did think about that.I wouldn't have the time to pass the jlpt though... Unless I spent 2-3 years doing nothing here. Not to mention it would be very expensive.

Taexzy September 2, 2012, 5:59 am

There are programs in English and Scholarships. I am far from fluent in Japanese. I am going to Osaka University from this fall.
Check out your eligability for MEXT Scholarships at the Japanese Embassy of your country for more information and you can probably find other scholarships as well as going for an exchange year to Japan from your University
shairn
shairn September 2, 2012, 6:12 am

@Taexsy This summer I went as a exchange to the International Buddhist University. Next summer I am moving there to just live there.

@Aniumixie Would you fit in a suitcase?
Aniumixie
Aniumixie September 3, 2012, 12:15 am

A big suitcase can work.
Yagami_Light
Yagami_Light September 3, 2012, 1:48 am

Aniumixie how long do you sit per day studying Japanese? Your score is massive always
Aniumixie
Aniumixie September 3, 2012, 1:53 am

Usually, around 2 hours. Maximum 3,5 hours so far which was on August 31st.
shairn
shairn September 3, 2012, 4:41 am

When you have a large combo, getting a lot of score isn't that hard. I used to just answer while watching TV or anime, you don't really notice your score going up.
SloanAkira
SloanAkira September 3, 2012, 8:26 am

what is bothering me is that vocabulary does not mix up. its not learning. they should do each series a major review questions so you do not just level up and forget. score not important.
Taexzy
Taexzy September 3, 2012, 8:31 am

well when you use practice you can adjust the settings to pick vocabulary and Kanji from all previous levels into your practice. But perhaps that's not what you meant
shairn
shairn September 3, 2012, 8:40 am

I have to say spending an hour or two a day carved a lot of words into my memory...

A lot more were set in stone when I started reading for real and watching raw anime though.
SloanAkira
SloanAkira September 3, 2012, 9:48 am

i meant the vocabulary words are perfectly in order with the test. ahhaha. i like kanji tests better so challenging.

@PeIrNiOkY In which city do you live? Tokyo? Kyoto? Osaka??
PeIrNiOkY
PeIrNiOkY September 3, 2012, 7:56 pm

@Aniumixie: I live an hour north of Tokyo, in Saitama, in Koshigaya-shi. Heard of it?
Aniumixie
Aniumixie September 3, 2012, 8:12 pm

@PeIrNiOkY Yeah, I've heard it. So, what's life like there? Is it hard? Difficult? Completely different?
PeIrNiOkY
PeIrNiOkY September 3, 2012, 8:18 pm

@Aniumixie: Life is good, can't really complain other than the fact that summers are too humid and winters are too cold for me. The people I've met have been really friendly. My Japanese is terrible despite being here for a few years, so that's why I'm checking this site out.
Aniumixie
Aniumixie September 3, 2012, 8:54 pm

@PeIrNiOkY I've heard that everything is expensive in Japan. Is that true?
difficult
difficult September 3, 2012, 9:49 pm

If you want a good time you need quite a lot of money. I don't have plans to go to Japan in the near future. No money for it.
Taexzy
Taexzy September 3, 2012, 11:02 pm

No need to have a lot of money to have fun in Japan, in my opinion you can go to a lot of bars that offer 飲み放題 and 食べ放題 at alright rates. Groceries tend to be expensive however eating out is cheaper at least compared to my country. If you plan on living in Japan your rent will be your biggest expense in my experience especially in the bigger cities, Tokyo rents are quite crazy then it's cheaper to live in the suburbs such as Saitama. I lived one year in 文京区 which is a great place to live however it tends to be expensive if you are not living in a University Dormitory as I did.
SloanAkira
SloanAkira September 3, 2012, 11:33 pm

Bear in mind. If you live in US, Our dollar value is really bad. If you work in Japan, you'll realize the prices are okay. Tokyo was listed as number one most expensive city compared to others IN DOLLAR but there are no poor people in Japan... Our dollar value is damaged and everytime we rise it, they rise it too. For them it's normal to buy a 60 dollars DVD's. But there's books for beginners to live in Tokyo comfortably in their budget. *゚▽゚*
SloanAkira
SloanAkira September 3, 2012, 11:34 pm

Feel free to correct me. That's what I read. ><
PeIrNiOkY
PeIrNiOkY September 3, 2012, 11:41 pm

I make enough to have fun every now and then and save money. Sure, it's expensive if you start playing with exchange rates. The prices don't even faze me anymore.
Taexzy
Taexzy September 4, 2012, 12:24 am

And poor and homeless people do exist in Japan you can see them building their boxforts. Even the homeless people in Japan work though with what small tasks they can find, truly industrious IMO
Taexzy
Taexzy September 4, 2012, 12:29 am

PeIrNiOkY what is your occupation?
SloanAkira
SloanAkira September 4, 2012, 2:14 am

Taexzy, then is it easy to find a job?
PeIrNiOkY
PeIrNiOkY September 4, 2012, 2:26 am

Taexzy: English teacher :P
Taexzy
Taexzy September 4, 2012, 2:27 am

Sloan I'm not working I'm a student
PeIrNiOkY
PeIrNiOkY September 4, 2012, 2:27 am

SloanAkira: depends on the job. If you have a specific skill set (Engineering, IT, etc) and your Japanese is at least at the N2 level, you might be able to fare pretty well. If you plan on teaching English, that's a little bit easier to get your foot in the door and hopefully branch out to other things.
SloanAkira
SloanAkira September 4, 2012, 9:08 am

don't they get enough english teachers? hahaha it seems like the only reason everyone use to live in japan. I however, would like to connect with deaf people there as I know sign language, japanese would definitely help me to communicate with them if needed
shairn
shairn September 4, 2012, 9:09 am

I don't think there's a difference between english and japanese sign language.
SloanAkira
SloanAkira September 4, 2012, 9:15 am

I saw two types they used via video blogs. but third is unofficial. they used american sign language and japanese sign language, third is international but hasnt been widely established. do you which they use often? I know english standard, american and very little jsl.
shairn
shairn September 4, 2012, 9:15 am

That's interesting, and kind of disconcerting.
SloanAkira
SloanAkira September 4, 2012, 9:19 am

JamesCarswell
JamesCarswell September 5, 2012, 7:22 am

It's 10 day school trip, 8 days will be spent in Japan. From Australia, we go to Taiwan, and from there we go to Osaka, we visit our hotel and we go sightseeing.

2nd day in Osaka we'll go on a day tour to Universal Studio.

on the 3rd day in osaka we'll go to Osaka Castle, Osaka Park and downtown.

the next day we go on a overnight trip to Miyajima and hiroshima.

The next day we visit Peace Park & Atomic Bomb Museum. then we leave for Kyoto.

The next day we go on a day tour to Kiyomizu-temple, Ysuka-shrine, Gion-Geisha street, Shijo-kawaramachi downtown and Gion corner and other places.

The next day in Kyoto, we visit Golden Pavilion, Arashiyama, and a Japanese Movie village - I'm told this is were old samurai movies are done.

The next day we have half a day in Kyoto,we leave Kyoto, to Osaka Airport, and fly back to Taipei, and back to Australia.

I don't know how much time there will be for shopping, but there should be heaps =D
