- Hi there,
I think you can definitely use a negation in this case. But I don't think 好きない is a correct negation for this adjective, maybe you meant 好きじゃない ?January 24, 2018 at 6:39am - Oh I wasn't aware of that, but yes I'll use that! Thank you!January 24, 2018 at 8:25am
- No prob, glad to help :)January 24, 2018 at 12:09pm
- But literally that means "to not like", which may also mean something like "I don't like nor hate". Not liking something does not automatically equate to hating something. So technically, 好きじゃない is not synonymous with 嫌い.January 25, 2018 at 2:29am
- Good point! They're not synonymous at all indeed.
After reading the question again I realize I gave a wrong answer, my bad @violetchild. @miharusshi is 100% right, you can't replace 嫌い with 好きじゃない if you mean to say you "Hate" something... The meaning wouldn't be complete...
I guess my angle was if it was if it was said with a certain tone, in a certain context and potentially implying some degree of sarcasm...
I should keep that in mind when answering this kind of questions :DJanuary 25, 2018 at 1:32pm - I was first thinking of suggesting 嫌 いや as the alternative, but that's one got a whole lot of other meanings too, depending on iJanuary 27, 2018 at 12:42pm
- Oh yeah! I think いや is a great alternative and would work well in most situations... Ultimately it seems the alternate word you can use here depends on the degree to which you "hate" that something...January 28, 2018 at 9:02am
- Yeah, I thought 憎む にくむ would be good, but it sounds like it's an extreme kind of hate, i.e., to despise, to loathe kind of level.January 28, 2018 at 12:09pm
