- believe me it won't do you any good because japanese is famous for it's homophones.Words that have the same sounding. Also kanji have on and kun readings.Knowing it pretty much secures you the compounds it's used in e.g 車 by itself is kun and reads "kuruma"-car and in compound 車輪 both using on "sha-rin" which means wheel.
輪 by itself is kun and read "wa"
meaning ring.
There is mostly 1 on-reading and a couple of kun if not any(means kanji is only used in compounds)
learning all kun is also not the right way...I'd suggest learning kanji because when I tried and aced on 1000 words in romaji..it hardly gave me anything..because these words have to be used in context ,and best way getting that is reading.(kanji is your friend :))May 26, 2012 at 5:55pm - Pretty much what slawyn said. Just use JCJP's vocab tests/practice, you'll get both the hiragana and kanji. In order to get used to kanji, I recommend getting into Heisig's "remembering the kanji"(Something like 20$ for each book on amazon IIRC, though you can get it by alternative means *wink*). It's a really good way to get the 2000 general use kanji most high school students should know, though I'll warn your right now that it takes a while. I've been on the book for two months now and I've gone through 1400 kanji, and I study every day for at least an hour.
がんばって!May 27, 2012 at 12:01pm - iknow.jp supports vocabulary study with romaji, hiragana/katakana.
It's a payment site though.May 27, 2012 at 8:25pm
