  Example:
  
  窓を開けないようにして。
  It can be translated "Please keep the window closed."
  
  私は窓を開けようとしない。
  It can be translated "I don't try to open the window."
  
  The first one is used to ask someone not to do something.
  
  And the second one is used to state your intention.
  
  I thing that is the difference. :)
