Hey, could someone explain the のを part in this sentence: 荷物を運ぶのを手伝って下さい ? I get that のを is supposed to be a (pseudo) cleft but I don't think I really understand it.

The の is used as a Nominaliser and the を is the object marker.
    Think of it more as:
    [荷物を運ぶの] を手伝って下さい

    [荷物を運ぶの] is the noun phrase.

    No problem.

Essentially adding の to a verb makes it into a noun and in this case creates a noun phrase so:

Can you help me with~ [carrying the luggage]

Similarly you can say such things as:

    私は [サッカーをするの] が好きです。

I like ~ [playing soccer], as opposed to simply soccer:

    私は [サッカー] が好きです

which could mean watching, playing, or just in general and is not very specific. It is very useful as you can then describe actions or make them the object of a verb like in the original example.
