Hi guys, I'm a complete beginner, just stumbled upon this page and thought that I might give it a shot. I started with the first lessons (Hiragana), but I have no idea what's happening there. What I get is one symbol as a question and 4 options as an answer, however I have no idea what's the learning goal in this bit. can anyone explain? thanks

So there is 3 way to write in japanese. The hiragana, the katakana ans the kanjis. So In this section, you can see a list with symbols and lettres under. It like an anlphabet (but I don't remember the correct name) and so you must study this alphabet in order to rea japanese.
Once you think you have memorised a bit, you can train youself with the pratice. If you have troubles do it again, until you can remember nearly all the hiraganas and the katakanas. There is a logic behind and it is phonetic so it does not take so much time. You just need to be motivate for an hour and it is done ;)

I suggest watching videos on youtube, they explain how the three "alphabets" (Kanji, Katakana and Hiragana) work and then you can come back ehre to learn them.
