hmm not sure why Mary is メアリー and not メーリ- There you have a good point :P I have always learned that people know how to spell their own name, and therefore I won't change their name on reply.

I've studied on and off for years though without getting very far, now I'm trying to focus and make good progress.
@Willager77 You may be right! I've seen it spelled in katakana both ways, not sure if there is actually a correct or incorrect way to spell a non-Japanese name in Katakana. Feel free to correct me if so! - I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter how you spell your name! I've found online that my name can be spelled ミカエラ or ミケイラ, and my Japanese teacher spelled it as ミケラ o_o so I just stick with ミケイラ 'cause I think it's cuter
- Good to know! I've also seen my name written in katakana in a few different ways, so I just stuck with that one that I preferred over the rest. (*´艸`*)
