Kunyomi = pronunciation when the kanji is alone when the kanji is in a compound word (2 or more kanji to form a single word)
There's a lot of exceptions though, but it's usually like this.

To make it simple, Kunyomi is the Japanese way of reading whilst Onyomi is the Chinese one.
Usually, the Kunyomi reading is adopted if the kanji is alone, but this rule has plenty of exceptions.
