- rikaichan is my waifu. However, it is really important to try REALLY hard not to use it on this site, otherwise, the site thinks you know the word, and don't quiz you on it anymore.
My method of using this site, is I keep a note book next to me, and write down every word that I get wrong. Sometimes, I will actually rikaichan a word I don't know first, but then I purposefully answer incorrectly, then answer submit the right answer (RIP Exp Combo ;w;)August 27, 2014 at 3:21am - Kakka_rot has the right idea~ I do that too. In fact I have a whole spiral notebook dedicated to learning Japanese.
I started by learning katakana and hiragana. I opened up the lists and took my time writing them down (Hiragana took up one whole page writing the hiragana on one line and the sound it makes directly underneath without skipping any lines. Katakana took up a bit less, leaving two or three lines empty.)
After I wrote them down I opened up the "Practice Katakana" and started to learn by listening to the sound the katakana made first, then repeating it while taking visual note of the katakana, clicking the right option and repeating this until I started to recognize some of the katakana without listening first. From there on I pushed myself to try to remember the katakana without listening first. If I came across a katakana that stumped me, I opened my notebook to a page I titled "Troublesome Katakana" , wrote the sound and the symbol in the left margin and then filled the whole line rewriting the katakana over and over until I hit the right end of the line, also repeating the sound in my head over and over.
With this method and some dedication I learned katakana solidly in less than 24 hours.
Thought I would let you know what was working for me KittyNi. This is my "lesson plan" for learning the writing systems. Please don't give up! Fighto!August 27, 2014 at 5:06am
