On'yomi is the original Chinese pronunciation and Kun'yomi is the Japanese pronunciation. I think Kun'yomi also has hiragana attached to it, usually. That Tofugu article OathKeeper posted would explain it the best * W*/

Although attached hiragana (okurigana) can indicate that the kunyomi should be the reading, it is not a requirement for the kunyomi reading.
