I'd be willing to help you if you have any questions or want to practice your writing/grammar (just know that I am not that proficient in Japanese).頑張って-Good Luck!

    ありがと。わたしわ Mexican-です。°時よる祝。Right?

First- Watashi WA is written as Watashi HA. (わたしは or the regular way you will see it is 私は with Kanji).

Second- Next ありがと is usually ありがとう with the う at the end so you extend the sound.

Third- If you want to practice Katakana you can write Mexican as メキシカン.

Also are you trying to say "Time to celebrate."?

おう isn't an extended お, it just sounds like that because you're not completely used to the sounds yet. おう is the お sound followed by the う sound, which only seems like おお to an untrained ear.

Mexican is written as メキシコ人, which is read as メキシコじん.

I think he is saying his name is Mexican, 人 makes it a Mexican person in which case you would be right :)

Also with sounds like おう I am trying to ease him into this because if you get thrown to much info at once you will only retain but a fraction it, I find things like that come with time and experience.

I didn't pay attention to his name, you're right. If you mean to say that your username is Mexican, than you write it as メキシカン if you want to write it in Japanese at all. Some people write video game usernames and the like in romaji.

Though, I think you're doing him a disservice by "temporarily lying" to him to ease him into something. Isn't it better to let him know that おう is pronounced as お and then う? I would think that having to remember it as おお just makes it more complicated. I'd rather be told that it's おう, and the う is just a smaller sound.

By the same, the う sound in です is also unvoiced a lot of the time in casual speech, so it sounds like des. The う just has a tough life in general.

Ah I See. And On The う Think. I Just Forgot To Add That Hah. I Do Understand The Concept.
