Use a SRS site, like Memrise. It's easy, but learning without SRS took a good amount of time for me.

You're not racing anyone; take your time. You'll get it eventually. It took me two weeks each to learn both. It may take you longer; it may not.

That being said, don't slack if you can help it. Figuring it will take as long as it takes can be a good way to put Japanese learning on the back burner, and some people never get it back on the regular menu.

There are flash cards by a company called White Rabbit that I used to learn Hiragana & Katakana. You can get them from Amazon. They are amazing and will use pictures to help you remember the kana. You can learn them all in a week! It makes it that easy! Plus they are convenient. You can carry them around anywhere. They helped me a lot! Good luck.

If you have an iPhone or iPad try an app called 'memrise' and search for the basic japanese course :)
