Does anyone get practice from reading things in the supermarket? I'm just now learning the language, but I grew up with many Japanese foods, so I came to know them just from the visuals, not actually reading them.

Yes, reading in different contexts is what makes the characters stick in your memory.

Ok, thanks! n_n I'm having problems with grammar, though; struggling a lot reading Kanji and on/konyomi interwoven...Any suggestions how to make this easier?:P

Tae Kim's Grammar Guide is a good place to start. I also use the Core decks on Anki that have full sentences with pronunciations. Context tells you what pronunciation to use, studying words by themselves doesn't get you very far.

Anki has zero social function but there's an app, it's similar to here: https://ankiweb.net/shared/decks/japanese core The app version of TK's Grammar is also the most useful imo: http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar
