I love genki. Pretty user friendly, it and the second only cover the basics, but I hear the same publisher makes a Intermediate series which works like a successor.

That really depends on whether your user name is just for show. Are you in Tokyo? If so, as long as you get yourself reading kana, there are many more options available to you. A good amount of Japanese study is even available at the dollar store, and follows the same pattern students learn it in Japanese schools.

If you have a bit torrent client and a lower than average level of ethics you can just torrent Genki (PDFs, MP3s, and all).

I don't know that I would say that it's a lower than average level of ethics, really. I counter it with this particular item being much more expensive than it needs to be (no matter who you order it through, in whatever country, it's not going to be cheap) and I think ethics change for most anyone once they're online and "anonymous". Even Japan - where most crime is lower - used to have a higher level of illegal downloading. This was because although downloading copywritten materials was illegal, it didn't have a punishment. Seriously. Then they decided to add a punishment to that crime and downloads went right down. Shock!

I have Genki 1 and while I like it, it leaves some descriptions of grammar points to be desired. I have been working through Japanese the Manga way and I feel it is better with some of the grammar points Genki did not expand on. Between the two it is great but you can use Tae Kim/IMABI (check in google) to supplement Japanese the Manga Way instead of Genki and they are free. JTMW is also cheaper. YMMV

am the kind of person that need exercises to learn the grammar, Special that i study Japanese by my self. and i looked at TAE KIK book its good to tell you the use of the grammar point but you need more example and exercises. and if any of you know where i can find genki PDF and mp3 plz tell me

I find it much more motivating to have a physical book, rather than a PDF-file. I also find it much more motivating to have a book I paid for, so that I have to use it to get my money's worth.

So sure, download any book you think you'd like, then try to find a copy if you like it. Maybe even used (as long as no answers have been written in the book). Then if you write your answers in a separate writing book, you could sell your book when you're done. Good luck!
