Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
it is my understanding that it is a test by the Japanese government for foreign Japanese speakers.
there are 5 levels 1 being the lowest and 5 the highest proficiency. I think to live, work in japan and/or become a Japanese citizen you have to pass the JLPT at a suitable level.
at least thats what I here .... something like thatJune 11, 2015 at 8:06pm

It doesn't say about citizenship but it does say that you need to pass the highest grade to be registered to work there as a medical professional. I'm guessing potential employers might also use it as a standard criteria for foreign vacancy applicants.June 11, 2015 at 8:18pm
