most people learn kanji just by how its shaped. for example: ーmeans one, ニ means two, etc...

Try learning by radicals, because learning by stroke order can be hard and confusing :)

Try mnemonics. Learning radicals is good. But when you write them out (they looks different than computer), you'll see the difference in them. There's also a book on it, Heisigs remember the kanji. About 35$ on Amazon.
