    When talking about the Chinese zodiac there are many meanings to the symbols other than that of the animals. Those are just some of the other meanings when talking about this symbol in that context. As you probably know it has another use of self introduction. Shirokitsuneと申します。

    Yeah, this is true, but I haven heard before that someone use 3pm-5pm for example. west-southwest, July have their own names and July has nothing to do with 9.

    I don't know the origins but the monkey is in charge of the west-southwest direction if you were to break a wheel up into 12 parts. Most stories talk about the monkey being kind of a summer god so I guess that is where they got July but I have seen it specifically state that it is the god of August. It might have to do with the lunar calendar causing the months to be a little off from time to time. Lastly I don't really know why it is 3-5pm but I have read before that again this is the time the monkey is assigned to protect. My wife is really into Japanese astrology so I will ask her tonight if she knows but I think all of the assignments were brought over from china so she might not have an answer.
