    not all kanji is the same as chinese characters.
    some of them are the same but different in pronunciation.
    kanji i came from chinese, you can read more about kanji from Jackbosma's Links.
    i'll just give some example
    一二三四五六七八九十 that is numbers in japanese, same as chinese? yes!.
    reading? nope.
    1 to 10
    jp: いち、に、さん、し/よん、ご、ろく、なな/しち、はち、きゅう、じゅう。
    chn yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā jiǔ shí
    only some of the have the same reading *notice 3&4 and perhaps 9.
    and many others :3
