I am about a year from graduating from college with an Education degree with the FULL intent of moving to Japan to teach English. Question: How far in advance do I have to register for a teaching visa?

very complicated but you can't really get a visa by yourself initially. If I were you I would look at different companies that will help you get an instructor visa.
