地球の奥深くからマグマが地表近くに浮上し「マグマ溜り」を形成し、圧力が臨界点に達して爆発的に地上にマグマが噴き出すのが「噴火」という現象。この「マグマ溜り」は長い間、地学研究者の概念上の産物でしたが、地球上でただ一か所、実際にこの「マグマ溜り」跡をその目で確認できるばかりか、その底にまで降り立つことのできる場所がアイスランドに存在します。アイスランド3日目は、この世界唯一の場所「スリーニューカギーグル山」の『Inside the Volcano』ツアーに参加しました。
