In Don’t Starve Together, most characters are unlocked by default. You can choose 1 of 14 playable characters to play in an endless world of The Constant. With that being said, there are 4 locked characters – Wortox, Wormwood, Wurt, and Wanda, and you have to purchase the DLCs to play them.

How to Unlock Characters in Don’t Starve Together
Currently, there are a total of 19 playable characters in Don’t Starve Together. They include:
14 free characters: Wilson, Willow, Wolfgang, Wendy, WX-78, Wickerbottom, Woodie, Wes, Maxwell, Wigfrid, Webber, Winona, Warly, and Walter.
4 paid characters (DLCs): Wortox, Wormwood, Wurt, and Wanda.
1 hidden character: Wonkey.
In other versions of the game, like Don’t Starve or Don’t Starve Shipwrecked, you have to keep playing and survive to earn experience points in order to unlock new characters. Moreover, you may need to spend up to 128 in-game days to unlock all characters.
But that’s not the case for Don’t Starve Together!
All default characters are unlocked, and their perks are modified to fit the multiplayer world better. Whether it’s a buff or a nerf in character perks, you shouldn’t play alone in Don’t Starve Together. Unless you’re aiming for the reward chests.
There are 2 ways to unlock 4 paid characters, you can buy the character’s deluxe chest in the DLCs shop, which will cost around $4.99-$9.99, depending on the character. The chest contains a fresh new character and 1-3 skins for you to put on later.
In addition, you can use 2,700 Spools to weave the paid characters. To get this specific amount, you have to unravel an insane amount of items in your inventory.
Here’s a quick table to show how many items in specific rarity you have to unravel to unlock one paid character in Don’t Starve Together.

If you don’t want to buy DLCs for new characters, we suggest that you should play at least 10 hours a week to get 4 chests. Then you can unravel the skins you received from the chest into Spools.
Finally, to unlock the Wonkey character, you have to acquire 10 accursed trinkets. Whenever you kill a powder monkey, you will receive an accursed trinket. And the powder monkey can spawn from monkey huts, which can only be found in the Moon Quay.
When you have 1 accursed trinket in your inventory, your feet will transform into monkey’s feet. At 3 and 6, your hands and tail will transform, respectively. And at 10 trinkets, your main character will be fully transformed into Wonkey.
