Nasa launches bid to find life

English Public
NASA has officially launched a mission aimed at discovering life on Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. Europa, long considered one of the most promising candidates for harboring extraterrestrial life in our solar system, is covered by a thick ice crust beneath which lies a vast, salty ocean. This hidden ocean, combined with the moon’s geothermal activity, could create conditions suitable for life.

The mission, known as the Europa Clipper, will investigate Europa's surface and subsurface environment to assess its habitability. The spacecraft is set to launch in 2024, with a primary goal of gathering data on the moon's ice shell, ocean, and composition. By studying its surface and potential water plumes, scientists hope to determine if the conditions beneath Europa’s icy shell could support microbial life.

Europa Clipper will not land but will perform multiple flybys, using various scientific instruments to analyze the moon's surface, gravity, magnetic fields, and atmosphere. The mission reflects NASA's broader interest in icy moons, as they offer new frontiers in the search for life beyond Earth .

This mission is part of NASA’s ongoing efforts to explore the outer planets and their moons, hoping to answer one of humanity’s most profound questions: Are we alone in the universe?
