Kanji learning adds a lot of difficulties to the jap learning, that's why it's better not to focus on it right from the start.
So if it's too hard right now, don't worry, just learn something else like grammar or vocab and leave the kanji for later.
Every thin in jap is a lot easier when you have a grammar base to rely on ;)
