I use the readings section a lot. The site pulls in the first part of current news articles. There is a link below the full article if you ever want to to try to read the rest. You try to read the article as best you can. Then go down and look at the vocabulary. Read the article again using the vocabulary. Then when you are comfortable with the meanings of the vocabulary, click quiz The site does it's best to match up the vocabulary to what is in the article. Not all words are pulled or match the definition below. The fact that you are learning potentially thousands of words out weighs the negative of some words not being a an exact match. You will gain so many a-ha moments using this site and gain real japanese experience. You can click the question mark to pull up the words you don't know very well using this site. I use jisho.org to check words that do not match the context and to further study the kanji meanings. I copy and paste the word into jisho.org. 米 is a great example of how you differentiate the meanings the readings section shows the meaning of this as rice. If you search this in jisho.org, you will see that rice is correct. But it also means America or American. In jisho.org, when you click kanji details underneath the definition, you can study the individual kanji meanings. Sometimes compound words make sense, which makes it easier to remember in the future, other times they don't make sense and you just have to do your best to come up with a memory trick. The readings section gets easier as you go as you learn more and more words. Less words will be new. Your profile page keeps track of how many words you have learned. The readings section keeps track of each word you learned including how many times you have encountered the word and when you last encountered that word. I recommend sticking with one category of news for a while, such as entertainment. Then branch out as you get more comfortable with the vocabularies there...there are thousands and will be thousands more within each category. This has been a very helpful tool for me to learn new vocabulary and reinforce thousands of words that I have already learned. I just need to get better at grammar...I am working on that! :) Good luck!

Google up Tae Kim if you want to work on grammar. You should have an easy time of it if you have a solid vocabulary to practice with. With his site and JCJP together, you have all the tools you need to get a solid foundation.

Thank you very much for the recommendation. I was just recently given a kindle as a gift and just the other day I downloaded the Tae Kim grammar on there. I will make it a priority. japaneseclass.jp has helped me so much!
