- Sorry to correct the Romaji. The literal translation is "watashi no tanjoubi desu. Males may use da in place of desu". adding "kyou wa" will make it "Today it ismy birthday."May 6, 2014 at 3:08am

- I think it should be kyou wa watashi no tanjoubi desu because saying "Kyou wa" would set the word "Kyou"/today as the topic/subject and "watashi no tanjoubi" as the predicate noun.May 6, 2014 at 11:48am
- @tereziKagamine I nearly replied the same way, but if kiseichu-san wanted the literal translation for the phrase he gave, then it would be without the 'kyou wa' part as he didn't say 'today is my birthday'...
I'd argue that 'watashi no tanjoubi desu' doesn't literally mean 'it's my birthday' either, but is more like 'is my birthday' without mentioning the topic or subject.
However... It was actually his birthday when he posted (yesterday now, here in the UK), so the 'it' in his sentence was standing in (pronoun) for the word 'today' (antecedent) anyway... So I'd say both are correct answers.
But even more to the point: He wasn't asking a question to find out the answer anyway! It was more of a question that's not meant to be answered if you read the next part of what kiseichu said... ^^;May 6, 2014 at 1:13pm - @mog86 Yeah, I know I did not put the Japanese translation for "it" in the sentence. Simply put, I do not know the Japanese word that should be in there. My bad. Thanks for the corrections. ^_^May 6, 2014 at 1:22pm
