- I've tried learning each ling of Hiragana and Katakana individualy e.g first learn the "a" line, then the "ka" line etc. I'm still learning Katakana but I have found this is a really good method. Hope this helps. :)May 28, 2014 at 1:13am
- repetition is all i'll say go over the charts daily, print them out and put them round the house. After a days to a few weeks you should find that your able to put more than one character together to make a word like "NE-KO" ねこ, which means cat and from there you go on to more complex words.May 28, 2014 at 3:09am

There's a lot of websites that have flashcards, games, etc. for learning both of them. personally I started off using this site's hiragana and katakana practice for the most part and then when I was in class I used physical flashcards I made. Once you get the jist of all of them just start using it and it'll come natural just from usage. good luck!May 28, 2014 at 3:25am - Way back when...I learned to read them by drawing them....if you can write them, then you can read them. Picking katakana first can be more fun to practice with...then look for katakana words in books or comic books or pictures of signs. Katakana are almost always english words...not always though. The quiz for hiragana and katakana right here in the lessons section of this site will be very helpful to you! http://japaneseclass.jp/lessons/kana Good luck and have fun!May 28, 2014 at 3:56am
