    If you don't know it, you don't know it, so you'll have to go back to the lesson it's in an figure it out that way. Personally, I find learning vocabulary first with Kanji and hiragana and then doing kanji on its own is a more effective way to learn kanji. That way, you're not completely in the dark all the time and you start to recognize some kanji that way as well.

    Sometimes you can guess based on the first radical. It takes a while to pick it up.

    go to www.jisho.org you can look up kanji by it's radical (which is it's parts). It can be hard figuring out some parts though, but this is how I look up kanji I don't know the meaning of.

    you have to learn the reading of them its difficult but not impossible.
