    こんばんは* you use the particle ”は”(pronounced わ) to point to the subject ’こんばん’ (This Night)

    Ok so I use は instead of わ and still pronounce the wa

    Yeah it's kinda confusing :P Normally, は is pronounced as 'ha'. That is, when it is used as part of a word. When は is shown as a grammatical particle (marking the 'topic' of a sentence), you will pronounce it as 'wa'.

    Example:
    わたし は はなび が だいすき です

    Is pronounced as:
    "watashi WA HAnabi ga daisuki desu"
