good ways to learn kanji other than writing it down repeatedly / making sentences?

    You could try out mnemonics...like how the west kanji character looks like a mouth eating a person's legs or so.
    Idk if it's really helpful, but if you're interested check out the Remembering the Kanji book...I don't really know other advices...but you could also toy with the japanese keyboard a bit, I guess....

    Try and learn from picture kanji :O It helps.

    Ah yeah, I've also seen some thingies called flashcards.

    Possible method: Practice writing a kanji only to learn how to write the kanji, rather than the kanji itself. To learn the kanji, break it down into the radicals and create a story for it. Then use flashcards to keep it in your head, or try to remember your mnemonic (remembering is learning).
    You can string mnemonics together to make longer stories to remember several vocab. Or you can try the instinct method... which is to simply encounter a kanji enough times in different sentences you recognise it (but this works best when you have learnt the individual kanji first. Be aware of similar kanji with this).
