はじめまして!わたしわMari-chanです。 ( I hope I wrote that correctly ^.^ )
I am new here, and I just started to learn Kanji, so I was wondering... Do you know which is the best way to learn it? I'd be really grateful, if someone is able to give me a few tips and advices :)

- こんにちわ!私はエイドリアンです. Just so you know in Japanese you spell わたしは not わたしわ it is a common mistake. As for Kanji I have found the best way to remember is with mnemonics, which their are many sites and books you could reference. Hope your studies go well!August 12, 2014 at 6:33am

- i'd suggest learning the different smaller parts (components or radicals) of the kanji first, and what each means. and then learn kanji with similar elements together as a group. e.g. the little elements that mean plant, or bow, or legs, etc. -- there are many good books on that, such as "kanji abc" by foerster and tamura, or sites like kanjidamage, or the heisig method, and many others. sometimes each one uses different names for the radicals so it can get confusing if you try to use them all though. there's also a game called slime forest adventure that is like a jrpg where you remember the meanings of kanji to attack the enemies. any of them could work, just pick one and stick with it for a few months until you learned all the meanings of the kanji (some people ignore vocabulary/compounds and the pronunciation of them at first, and learn those later, others learn those at the same time as the kanji, both can work). after you've done that, you will likely forget a lot of them, but that's fine, because once you are familiar with them, you can then move on to learning vocabulary and reading simple texts, and "re-learning" the kanji that way. basically don't feel like you absolutely have to memorize them or have a 100% success rate in memorizing them, because even japanese people growing up in japan frequently forget them and have to look them up. if you get too stuck on trying to get them all down perfectly you can prevent progress. in real life, even after you are fluent in japanese, every day you will be looking up kanji that you forgot about, so it's almost more important to get good at quickly looking up kanji than it is to get good at memorizing them.August 13, 2014 at 4:27am
- basically, the kanji part of this site is good for *review*, after you've already been exposed to them elsewhere, but i wouldn't suggest learning the kanji for the first time through this site, other sites are much better (e.g. kanjidamage with its memrise deck, or kanji.koohii.com). mainly because the order of the kanji on this site isn't organized very well, they don't present the kanji from simpler to more complex, they don't group similarly looking kanji by radical, they don't even group kanji by japanese grade level, they just seem to present them semi-randomly here, which isn't a good way to learn them imo. but also because this site doesn't even have all of the kanji you'd need, its selection is limited to about 1700. but as a way to review many of the kanji after you've learned them years ago and forgotten a third of them, this site is good.August 13, 2014 at 4:33am
- (it may be a good idea just to use the 'vocabularly' parts of this site and ignore the 'kanji' parts, i've seen several users do that, all their vocabularly lessons are filled out, but their kanji ones are empty. for gaining a basic vocabulary of common words this site can be good, similar to something like core1k.)August 13, 2014 at 4:35am
- Thank you sooooooo much, thanks for your time! You really helped me a lot! You're great :) ! I could't ask for better advices than this!August 13, 2014 at 7:37am
- If you have an iPhone (though I think the app is on other smartphones too) try investing in "Japanese By renzo Inc" app. Only 8$ and it great for what you are getting.August 14, 2014 at 3:30am
