Anyone have any tips for navigating around Tokyo without phones and technology? I'm not great at reading maps, so if anyone know a simple book/map or something that I could buy online?

- I wish there were people in airport waiting to get hired and stay with you all the day to help you communicate via English -> Japanese D:
I'd do that if I were to take a vacation in JapanAugust 13, 2014 at 1:12am - The train system here is pretty simple, just grab an english train map at the airport. You will probally want to take the Narita Express to Tokyo though since the airport is far from the city. But once you get to Tokyo just have wherever you want to go mapped out and you should be ok. Most tourist spots are located on the Yamanote or Ginza lines anyway.

- there are always offline maps available (not google maps though, so map does not look so good) it requires a little bit of an effort to download maps on home computer first then transfer to mobile. I can't remember what exactly I used last year but it worked. Another option is to set up Starbucks WiFi account (free, only cost will be checking your emails in Tokyo for Starbucks password) as soon as you can and then if you have any problems - find nearest Starbucks and connect to WiFi (usually standing near window is OK, so no drink purchase necessary) - I used this method myself last time in Osaka and Tokyo anytime I needed maps.
One thing I found very useful - print maps from rail station to hotel(s) at home and mark where the hotel was, helped a lot finding the place with all the luggage.August 13, 2014 at 5:46pm - Thanks! I guess it will be best to prepare maps and routes before hand!August 13, 2014 at 6:02pm

MAP AND COMPASSAugust 13, 2014 at 10:20pm - There are maps everywhere in Tokyo. Once you understand the adress system (beware, no street names!), you can't get lost.
AND asking to the policemen at the koban is fun too :pAugust 14, 2014 at 4:50pm - Guide for trains in Tokyo: http://tokyofromtheinside.com/demystifying-the-railway-train-and-subway-systems-of-tokyo/August 17, 2014 at 11:46pm
