I'm having a little trouble with the word ベッド.

It's prounounced "beddo". I understand that some kana when between or after certain characters is like a "pause" such as the word "ざっし” the "っ" turns into a "s" just as in ベッド the "ッ" turns into a "d".

ベッ = bed

ざっ = Zass

Could someone in detail explain why, and in what other times this happens?

(Ex. does this only happen if ベ comes after ッ, and when っ comes after ざ?)

    in all cases it just "doubles" the consonant of whatever comes after it. although it never comes before an n because a "doubled" n is followed by a ん.

    Thanks, I'll try to remember this information next time.

    Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.

    from what I’ve seen it’s usually used in kanji combinations where putting the readings together has a u consonant vowel combination followed by another consonant vowel combination with the same consonant. for instance: 学校 being がく and こう and instead of being combinded into がくこう it is combined into がっこう. This is because of the way that u vowel consonant combinations are pronounced with little to no u. Why the ちいさい つ is used I don’t know off the top of my head. In borrowed words however it is used to make the borrowed word sound more like the original.
