I know that it is terrible to use google translate as help but the first sentence(in google translate) completely changes when I put ですか behind it but I know that if I don't use か it isn't a question

Also yes, か is a particle for questions.
Yep, the second one is correct. Just remember that the topic is (usually) always first. Which, in this case, is 猫.
