A 5.7 earthquake struck about 30 minutes ago in the same area off mainland Japan. This one was much closer to land, and was 30x stronger on land. No reports of damage and/or injuries on land at this time. No tsunami advisory, probably since the epicenter was over 30 miles below sea level. Japan Magnitude Scale 5+ may be the highest level of shaking since the Great Touhoku earthquake in March 2011.

Crazy. This seems like a very useful link for tracking earthquakes in the area around Japan:

Wish Japan could move itself round to this part of the world where there are no earthquakes, no tsunami, no typhoons, no volcanos, no North Korea,... Would also make importing games and anime a lot simpler if you parked your islands next to ours! ^^

@mog86uk Thanks for the website link. I use the USA's USGS site, NHK World site, NHK 日本語 site, and the JCJP Readings page for earthquake updates.

The NHK 日本語 site also has a 震度 map, which shows specific magnitudes in specific cities and areas within minutes of an earthquake. :)

I live in 栃木県, so I'm closer than most to all the earthquake action. I usually check my twitter feed because I follow people who tweet about the magnitude and epicenter right away. I usually go to NHK's website when I want to check how much the 震度 was in my area.
