I almost didn't catch the joke just because it's something I've gotten so used to with this site.
@Arachkid Exactly. The hiragana in the question is in ONLY ONE of the answers. Hence the humor: "... not a trick question"- Yeah, but it's the same thing for kanji once you have more than a rudimentary knowledge of them - it asks you which one means a part of the body, and only one has the radical for a part of a body. Le sigh...
Or kanji compound words where some of the answer choices have too many syllables (at least, too many syllables for it it to use onyomi)...
There's even one kanji question where one of the answer choices contains a kanji character "九"! Anyone else noticed that one? :P- That's an issue with any testing for Japanese online that I've encountered - at least - the ones that aren't the type that are checking to see whether you can determine the proper "spelling". Either they're all similar and just trying to trip you up, or all different and as long as you have been studying for a certain amount of time the answering becomes automatic which kind of negates a lot of the purpose of studying/testing yourself.
- @Arachkid That's why I like my typing mod. It doesn't matter what those four answer choices are, because it hides all of them completely, requiring you to type out the answer instead. So this question is just as sensible as any of the other ones to me. ^^
- That's not bad - but I'm a bit against having to install mods to fix sites to my liking - or how they should be in a perfect world. I generally just put in recommendations for the powers that be to do so. I don't have access to change my browsers at all of my computers, and having sites appear different at different places would bug me. :P
