- No, you don't have to take it. Many people use it as a sort of measuring stick to see how good their Japanese is. But, if you want to find a Japanese-related job, anything below N2 is useless.July 6, 2015 at 9:39am
- Just out of curiosity, have you encountered any job that requires Japanese more seriously that you aren't automatically subjected to regular Japanese worker hours? As far as I've heard, as soon as you enter a job that requires Japanese, you're seen as "one of the regular workers", so are expected to stay late, come in on weekends, etc.July 6, 2015 at 12:30pm
- Every situation is different. For example, I have a friend who works as a translator at a Japanese law firm. Gets paid overtime, leaves on time, and has the weekends off. On the other hand, I have a friend who's pretty much a サラリーマン with the weekends off. He usually gets home at about 11 pm on weekdays. I'm not as opposed to all the work as you seem to be to get some working experience while working on my job-level Japanese. After all, I can quit after a year.July 6, 2015 at 2:32pm
- Meh, from the people I know in "Japanese jobs", either overtime is unpaid, or is paid and whether or not you work the overtime is dependent on management, not on actual workload, and can't be avoided for your personal life. I would be fine with working OT as needed, to an extent, but you can't really do that at a Japanese workplace, for the most part. I get to see my wife and daughter every day from 5pm, and my friends mostly don't get to see their families until the weekends, and maybe not even then if it is deemed necessary to work OT.July 6, 2015 at 3:06pm
- You have a family you want to spend time with. That's perfectly understandable. For me, though, I'm single and in my late twenties.July 6, 2015 at 9:25pm
- No worries, nothing to say I may not have a choice in whether I enter "the Japanese workforce" or not. Ah well, I can say おせわになります~ with the best of them. :PJuly 7, 2015 at 8:33am
