This is utter preposterous.
I know 待ってcould be read like 'motte' as well as 'matte', and I reckon both have more or less the same meaning.
But when I answer it 'motte' it says it's incorrect while 'matte' is correct, and when I say 'matte' it says 'motte' is correct.
どうして??!! It's clogging my performance, lol

    Howcome?

    待って = まって
    持って = もって

    As Etan pointed out there actually two different kanji with different meanings, to wait and to hold.

    Easy mistake to make, but pay attention to the "go" radical in まって, and the "hand" radical in もって. Radicals aren't completely logical, but I use them for clues about the kanji I'm not too familiar with.
