The Kana are really easy for me. I spent a week memorizing and WRITING them until I could complete the two tables without errors. Just don't mix them. Learn first one and then the other. It's like learning to read in Spanish. I don't think you'll need more. Then simply practice trying to recognize the kana in real texts. Internet is full of useful material. I prefer fun things like manga, although the vocabulary in manga can be somewhat weird.<br />If you know english, there are many words you can read in japanese knowing only Katakana. The real problem (for me) are the Kanji. But don't give up. It's really fun.<br />
