Would you suggest taking a JLPT N5 or N4 test or waiting for N3?
Personaly I would wait and learn more grammar and kanji for the N3 test, because the gap between N5 and N3 isn't that far compared to the N3 and N2 gap or even N3 to N1 gap. I think it isn't worth the money you would spend on an N5 or N4 test.
What do you think?

I started learning Japanese 4 months ago and still in the basics although I had enough knowledge to take the N5 test and I did okay.
Maybe you should take some trail tests online for free to test your level and the test level.

    Okay, thanks.

From what I've heard the only ones worth doing are 3 to 1.

Take it if you want, even at N5, if it will help your confidence and sense of progress. N5 will do nothing for you in terms of getting a job, unless they just want to make sure you can speak SOME Japanese as opposed to being completely unable to speak. I took it when I first got here, and it gave me a goal to study for - it certainly makes it easier to study once you have the thought that you have wasted money if you don't pass.
