Hello everyone, I have this question with this word in katakana. クラシック Why… - Feed Post by SCHOTM

Hello everyone, I have this question with this word in katakana.
クラシック
Why the tsu convert to K ??
I don’t found the reason why… Kurashikku
Is not the only one I found with that… I was think that was only this ones in the katakana: gojuon, dakuon, yoon and han-dakuon.
I don’t see how we ended having tsu convert to K… what rule is apply in this case?

A small っ or ッ "doubles" whatever consonant follows it. (Really, it is pronounced as a glottal stop, lengthening the amount of time it takes to pronounce the consonant. This happens with other unvoiced consonants as well-- k, s, t, and p, for example:
    バック -- bakku (back)
学校 = がっこう -- gakkou (school)
    カーペット -- kaapetto (carpet)
言った = いった -- itta (said)
    トップ -- toppu (top position)
    いっぱい -- ippai (full)

Actually, it can happen with a voiced consonant as well, although that's less common:
    ベッド -- beddo (bed)
