I was just wondering. I have heard that learning a language over the internet, or on a page like this won't get you very far. Can anyone tell me that this statement is wrong? Or can you get pretty far using this site?

    Depends rather a lot on what you mean by "pretty far", and also on what specifically it is that you want to get pretty far in

    The sign up and login page says "what you will learn" on this site. The things it lists are: the two Japanese syllabaries (hiragana and katakana), kanji, and vocabulary. Nowhere on this site does it indicate you will be able to learn amy grammar on here.

    So, if the thing which you are asking about getting pretty far in--solely using this site--is something which includes Japanese grammar, then in that case the answer is obviously "no". You will only be able to get as far as learning hiragana, katakana, several hundred kanji, and a couple of thousand vocabulary words. ^^;

    I was able to start a real class at the 103 level just from internet and book learning. It saves some money.
