Just when you get Hirigana down, you realise you have the whole of Katakana and Kanji to learn. Any tips for learning Katakana or is it literally just start from scratch?

Yes, they're different in shape. But, since Katakana is only used for foreign words, I think you can start moving onto vocabulary lessons at the same time.

Yeah I've started on vocabulary and kanji and I have no idea how to begin learning kanji but here I go XD

Best of luck. If you need to master kana, I highly recommend realkana.com; I used it to master kana in about a week. Kanji is a pain in the behind. I recommend you learn a large amount of vocabulary (with kanji) before you begin learning the kanji themselves... For example, rather than trying to learn 行(こう・い), study the much more useful nouns and verbs that have it: 行く(いく) - go, and 旅行(りょこう) - trip.

Trust me on this, your first priority after the alphabets is getting enough vocabulary to start speaking/writing/listening. Don't avoid kanji, but study the common words they make, not the kanji itself.
