5 years of self-study and although my comprehension of written language is impeccable with dictionary aid. I was able to skip into second year Japanese courses at university, although my lack of comprehension prevented me from jumping to third-year. Since I've taken those courses, my vocabulary and listening deficits have been greatly reduced.

I know a lot about Japanese, and I'm a capable translator. Perhaps one day I'll move there and gain true fluency. Until then, I'm studying to be a programmer and computer scientist with a minor in Japanese language.
