You're right, it isn't supposed to award EXP when you click a wrong answer.
I noticed this bug when doing a Notes quiz a couple of days ago. I thought this bug might only affect Notes quizzes, but I think you are saying it happened to you when using a different feature. I guess this is more serious than I thought. :/- Seems like Beeant has fixed this. Is it still happening for you?
I noticed the site was offline very briefly earlier, which was likely when this was getting fixed. At least it is definitely no longer happening on Notes quizzes now. ^^
