Try WaniKani, the first three levels are for free and the method to memorize Kanji sticks with you. I've read somewhere else something about a similar method; it's basically using your imagination to associate the meaning with an image that resembles the kanji. I believe this is the way kids learn it too.
    It works for me.

There is the heisig method that you can practice here http://kanji.koohii.com/ and is all about what narciso talked about. I personally like to just learn kanji as I encounter them in books and tv with the use of vocabulary.

I concur on the Heisig method. I just finished volume 2. That plus the respective Anki decks are all I've ever needed for kanji. Everything else, like this website, is kinda just like practicing or testing what I learned in the books.
