- Why does Japan censor genitals when it's such a huge porn production powerhouse?January 18, 2017 at 2:27am
- Is the censorship of "indecent material" and ostracization of the people that indulge in it part of the population decline Japan is facing?January 18, 2017 at 2:36am

Is the population decline Japan is facing due in part to the censorship of "indecent material" and ostracization of the people that indulge in it?January 18, 2017 at 2:43am - Ah, you probably only meant the language...January 18, 2017 at 2:44am
- Why the FUCK is the は particle such a pain in the ass topic of discussion? (pun intended)January 18, 2017 at 2:46am
- I always wondered how you're supposed to know which reading of a kanji to use. Like, what context clues do you have to look for to read it correctly?January 18, 2017 at 3:50am
- @pekoegal, that problem arises when one starts to learn kanji and their readings by themselves. I never had that problem because I learn vocabulary first, taking notice what reading the kanji use. It may or may not have other readings, I don't care. What I care about is the word I'm learning.
That's why I highly discourage learning the readings of kanji by themselves. They are simply useless. Two random kanji that you know the reading of won't necessarily make a real word. It might help you read something when you encounter an unknown word that uses kanji which reading you've learnt, but at that point it's mostly guessing which it is.
If there's some place that states an official stance on the usage of the readings of kanji in combination, then please someone tell me, I'd really like to know.January 18, 2017 at 4:22am - the reason porn is censored is so more people will buy/view it.January 18, 2017 at 5:33am
- Did you research that or just pulled it out of your arse? (joking)
But really, it makes no sense. That law doesn't solve any issue. In fact, more (Japanese) people just lust for uncensored stuff. I don't get it... I simply can't understand why it's still a thing. Is it just because nobody really went ahead with the proposal of abolishing it? I really hate my hentai being (visually) censored...January 18, 2017 at 5:56am - @pekoegal / @Fellivox,

The first link helped me out immensely a long time ago. Very to-the-point. It's probably still my favourite link for that question.
As for the second link, I highly recommend reading the entire page, not just the "readings" part. Not everything will sink in on the first read through, but it is very informative and well written. It covers so many of the important things to know about kanji readings. Highly recommend bookmarking it and re-reading bits of it occasionally until you know all of it. ^^January 18, 2017 at 5:59am - It probably has to do with the fact that their culture is prudish in weird ways. Not having sexual education is in a way a sin, in my opinion.January 18, 2017 at 5:59am
