JapaneseClass.jp for English speakers who know Chinese?

I'm trying to learn Japanese, and this website seems really amazing... But here I am using these flash cards, and I find myself using the kanji as a crutch. I need to stop doing this! But how?

I would be indebted to anyone who helped me figure this out.

I know Mandarin Chinese language. but don't think relaying on the kanji is really a problem. Most importantly you will need to pay attention to the hiragana / katakana.

So is there a way that I can study on JapaneseClass.jp without kanji?

I know what you mean. When answering vocab questions you read the kanji so easily that you skip past looking at the Japanese word pronuciation, instead just using the kanji and the English to click the answer. Something like that?

When using the Practice feature you can try changing the Multiple Choice Option setting, by turning off "Show Kanji" so that only "Show Kana" is highlighted and clicking "Save Settings".

Doing this will make all "Reverse Vocabulary" questions (English question, Japanese multiple choice answers) only show the kana reading of the words.

"Kanji" questions are okay, since for these you do have the question in kanji but have the answers only in kana (no English), so those shouldn't be a problem anyway.

The only problem left is the non-reverse "Vocabulary" question type, because turning off Show Kanji doesn't stop kanji being shown in the questions (only for reverse vocab choices), unfortunately.

Yeah... I find that if you have one clue to figure out the answer to the question, people tend not to learn the other clues. I guess JapaneseClass.jp isn't meant for me... : (

For now, you could just turn off the "Vocabulary" question type in the Practice Settings, so that only the "Kanji" and Reverse Vocabulary" question types are highlighted. This way you shouldn't have the issue you mentioned.

This will sort out the Practice feature for you, but won't fix the issue you'll have with vocabulary lesson tests as there are no settings for those.
