The 421 class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, for NSWGR in 1965/66. These mainline locomotives were a follow on from the 42 class. The 421s retained the classic bulldog nose as with the other Clyde built GM and S locomotives, but featured a flat-cab at the other end, making them unique amongt bulldog nose locomotives. Initially in service on the Main South line they were transferred to Bathurst in 1970 to operate between Lithgow and Broken Hill including the new In Buses And Trains, Old Trains, Lithgow, Bathurst, Rolling Stock, Diesel Locomotive, Model Train Layouts, Model Trains, Cab
The 421 Super-Duty is still a standard-bore block. It was rebuilt by Frank Kolbl and features all the good stuff, including the late-’62 “980” heads, McKellar No. 10 camshaft, and high-rise dual-quad intake, which mounts a pair of 625-cfm Carter AFBs. Exhaust gasses are expelled through original cast-aluminum headers.
