Thebreath of God is like the wind. The Hebrew word “spirit” (RUAKH) basically means “wind or breath”. WhenGod breathes it is literally “air in motion” and, like the wind, we cannotalways predict what God is going to do. He is not under our control. We cancount on Him moving but we cannot count on Him moving according to our ownexpectation. Nor can we count on Him moving the same way as He has done beforein our lives. However, although we cannot completely understand how He moves orwhen He moves, God wants us to discern His wind and where His breath will blow, preparing ourselves to turn into that wind like a windmill does. Windmills are designed to take the energy of the wind and they convert itinto something useful or to complete a task like grinding grain or producingelectricity. So it is with God, the wind of the Spirit blows in order to beused for a specific purpose or task. We need to learn how to catch the wind of God and to go wherever those winds take us, completely trusting the pattern of the blowing wind. Sometimes the wind of God has us hanging on for dear life, and sometimes it finds us waiting patiently while no wind blows. But no matter the circumstances, we are to be prepared and discern His blowing breath.A windmill is often found on higher groundso that it can gain access to available wind. Location is crucial as it assuresthat the blades can have access to the smallest breath of wind. In order toharness the breath of God we need to be placed close to Him. This is done inprayer and reading of His word. In moments of quietness, we begin to hear thesound of the wind rustling leaves just like David did.“When thou hearest the sound of a goingin the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shall bestir thyself: forthen shall the Lord go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.”—2Samuel 5:24.Allowyour spirit to be like a windmill, learning to see where the breath of God ismoving and then tilting in humble submission to His will & working.
