I don't know if anyone else knows about this app called "Kanji Study" by Chase Colburn, but I might as well inform everybody here who is looking for a great app for studying kanji offline that it has a free version which only has its N5 level unlocked. However, there's been a ~60% discount for the unlocked version which only cost me 199 PHP (that's around only 4USD).

The app has a great interface and has quizzes to test not only kanji readings/meanings, but also writing (with correct stroke order). Not only that, it has a vast list of example words and sentences which are great for learning the contexts in which a single kanji can be used.

I used the app quite a lot back when I was still drilling my way through its N5 study list but I was surprised to know its offering the rest of the content for so much cheaper than I remember (which was 475PHP, or ~9.5USD). In other words, it's a great additional resource for kanji learners--it can definitely help with retention kanji and will be of big aid for crunching our Oblivion and Lessons here. ^^

I bought the paid version of Kanji Study two and a half years ago for less than 5 GBP. I've used it quite a lot. The full version has 6384 kanji, and I put all of them into one massive set and drilled them slowly over the course of a month or two. :P

I also made other custom sets such as one for all 815 kanji taught on JCJP, one for all 1360 kanji visible within the Practice feature on JCJP, and one for all 1972 kanji taught in Slime Forest Adventure. Pretty handy for me to be able to instantly look these up and drill them occasionally. ^^

@mog86uk, do you have your self developed programs available for access to others? I wish you would join our study group!

@mog86uk, you have worked very hard! I think others could really benefit from your expertise.

The app doesn't provide a way to share the custom sets you make with other people. However, it does let you copy-paste a list of kanji into the app to make your own set.

My comment above this one is the full list of all 815 kanji taught in JapaneseClass.jp's kanji lessons. If you go on the site in your phone's web browser, then you can copy-paste that text into the Kanji Study app. ^^

You'll need to have the full version of the app though, since the free version contains N5 kanji only and therefore wouldn't add any non-N5 kanji from that list.

Thanks for sharing your tips, mog!

Yeah I bothered to use money to buy the full version of the app. It was worth it- I've used it for years. I like to read books and make groups of the words I don't know. Or put down all the words in a song I don't know in a particular list, memorize it, and the read the song lyrics again. It's really great if you use it right.
  • SkyeChain
Oh sorry I take it all back- I just looked up the specific app you were talking about. I use a different Kanji app.
  • SkyeChain
The app I thought ya'll were talking about is Japanese LS
  • miharusshi
^ I just looked it up and it seems good!
